The Blair High School boys' basketball team led 39-21 with about seven minutes left in the third quarter of its game against Seneca Valley on Tuesday. It was a hard-earned lead, one that came because of the Blazers' best first half of basketball "in the last calendar year," according to coach Mark DeStefano. But nothing has come easily to Blair (3-4) this season. When Seneca Valley ripped off a 12-0 third-quarter run to cut the deficit to six, DeStefano feared the worst. Tuesday, though, his team pulled through. The Howard High School Lions put up a battle that indicates they are better than their record, but came up short.
The marquee matchup of the Moco-Hoco Challenge featured a struggling 1-7 Howard Lions team against the Paint Branch Panthers. After two heartbreaking losses to open the season, the Panthers had won five straight games. Paint Branch would make it six straight Monday, but, to the surprise of the spectators, Howard would give the Panthers a good run for their money. The Lions are better than their record shows. This exciting matchup kept the fans on the edge of their seats, with the teams exchanging leads throughout the game. The Panthers would ultimately prevail, however, winning by a final score of 57-47.
