Game Plan for the Bankrupt Bookstore Chain Is Well Established

Here’s what to expect at the liquidation sale at Silver Spring's Borders.

Here we go again. Another big fire sale on books and other merchandise is under way at Borders -- this time in downtown Silver Spring rather than at Friendship Heights. All the same to this writer who happens to live in Rollingwood, a section of Chevy Chase that’s actually roughly equi-distant from both downtown Silver Spring and Friendship Heights, though if you commute downtown you should take the Metro from Friendship Heights because that’s much faster. So here’s the game plan of what to expect as Borders liquidates over the next couple of months. At the outset, discounts being offered will range from 10 percent to 40 percent on popular items such as children’s books, cookbooks and the like. Other slower-moving items, for example legal …

I'd really like the Burlington & Ross to move out from City Place into Borders and Pier 1. Or bring Marshalls. I said HM becuase I know teens love the store. A return of Fractured Prune as well but I think the size …   more ›

Make a Purchase at Borders, Get Money for Your Kid's School

The bookstores are giving a $15 giftcard to anyone purchasing the book Waiting for Superman.

Having three children — ages 8, 13 and 17 — reminds me every day what these economic times have done to our schools, so I am always looking for a way to help. Well, this weekend I have a new and easy way to help donate $15 to the school of my choice. So I thought I would share it here at Patch because I know many others also want to help. Make any type of in-store purchase at any Borders location — must be an in-store purchase, sorry no online buys this time — then take your receipt/certificate and log on to the Internet-based schools charity www.donorschoose.org. Enter your zip code and select from a list of schools in your area and that school gets a $15 gift card, thanks to you.  The best part of all is the purchase can be any amount, …
