Dozens of citizens meet with Montgomery County Police following two homicides.
Residents who packed a meeting with police officers Thursday expressed frustration with crime in East Montgomery County following the killings of two young men in the area. Jesse Campos, 21,was fatally shot after two gunmen barged into his apartment on July Drive in White Oak Friday, Dec. 7. A roommate and a woman were left in the apartment unhurt, police said. Homicide detectives are investigating two killings that occurred just days apart along Montgomery County's Route 29 corridor.
Six days after 21-year-old Jesse Campos was killed inside of his White Oak apartment, detectives from Montgomery County Police's Major Crimes division said they believe he was targeted. They say a second slaying also was not random, though the two have not been officially connected. A 22-year-old man from Landover died of gunshot wounds outside of an apartment near Briggs Chaney Road, police said.
Christopher Davon White, 22, of Landover, has been identified as the shooting victim Montgomery County Police found dead Monday outside of an apartment on Castle Boulevard in the Briggs Chaney neighborhood of Silver Spring. White's death was ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, according to police. An autopsy revealed that he died of gunshot wounds. Two men found dead in Silver Spring, possibly from gunshot wounds, in just four days prompted a special meeting with Montgomery County Police's 3rd District leader. Last Friday, 21-year-old Jesse Campos was shot dead in his White Oak apartment. Police said an investigation revealed that two suspects tried to get into the residence by forcing a roommate to open the door. After the suspects gained entry, they shot Campos and fled the scene, police said, leaving the male roommate and another adult female uninjured inside. One of men accused in the beating and shooting of Julian Kelly was sentenced to five years in prison in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Feb 15. Police said Kelly, 27, was beaten by a group of males while walking home from a bus stop near the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard on Aug. 21, 2010. He was shot four times and died of the injuries on Sept. 4, 2010. Shamire Moore, 20, faced up to 10 years in prison after a conviction for second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit second-degree assault last December, said Moore's attorney Barbara Graham.
