Busboys and Poets Headed to Takoma DC

The popular restaurant operates locations in Hyattsville, DC and Virginia.

It's not Montgomery County, but the just-announced Busboys and Poets location in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, DC is almost as good. (Don't hold your breath for a closer location, either—owner Andy Shallal said he is too peaceful to open up shop in Silver Spring.) The popular Washington, DC-based eatery just leased 6,500 square feet in Takoma Central, a mixed-use development at the corner of Carroll and Maple streets, according to a release from Federal Capital Partners and Level 2 Development, the developers of the $36 million rental-retail-restaurant combo.  The Busboys location in Takoma will be the company's fifth and is set to open in spring 2014, The Washington Post's "Capital Business Blog" reported. Busboys & Poets Owner Balks at Montgomery's Scrapped War Spending Resolution

Andy Shallal says he won't consider Bethesda and Silver Spring locations following Montgomery's withdrawal of controversial resolution, the Washington City Paper reports.

Halloween Adventure, a new costume shop that moved into the former Borders Bookstore space in downtown, wasn't the only company who considered the location. Busboys and Poets owner Anas “Andy” Shallal had his eye on the space to open a new restaurant. Following controversy surrounding the county council’s scrapping of a non-binding resolution petitioning Congress to direct war spending to social programs, Shallal says he won’t consider opening new locations in Montgomery County, the Washington City Paper reports. The peace activist, who opened a Hyattsville location this summer, told the City Paper he had been eyeing the closed Borders Books & Music space in Silver Spring and has also been approached by developers to open in Bethesda.
