Squisito: ‘We Want to Contribute to Community, Not Just Sell Pizzas’

Burtonsville’s upcoming Squisito will be the Annapolis-based company’s first venture into Montgomery County.

Although Squisito is a chain of sit-down pizza restaurants based in and around Annapolis, the franchisee of the company’s upcoming Burtonsville location is a Montgomery County native. The restaurant in Burtonsville Town Square is scheduled to open the first week in July. “Just call me Kensington Johnny,” John Minnick, franchise owner of Squisito in Burtonsville, said with a laugh. He lives in Edgewater, but he’s got deep roots in the county. Minnick grew up in Kensington, where his older sister was part of Albert Einstein High’s first graduating class. After he graduated from the high school, he joined the Marines. He served in the military for eight years. Returning to Montgomery County, he lived in Forest Glen and owned a hardware store …

Burtonsville Crossing Soon Down to Nine Open Businesses

Today's Image, a beauty salon, is the latest business to decamp the struggling shopping center.

When Today's Image, a beauty salon in Burtonsville Crossing shopping center, relocates to a new location in Howard County next month, it will leave behind just nine open businesses in the strip mall.  Looking for the latest business news in East Montgomery County? 'Like' Colesville Patch on Facebook.  Following a string of businesses that have not renewed leases, Today's Image will decamp to a space in Maple Lawn, a planned community just north of Burtonsville, in July.  Remaining businesses include national chains like Starbucks, Burger King, Dress Barn, Radio Shack and Cheeburger Cheeburger; local restaurants Kim's Hunan and Pepino's Italian Trattoria; a cleaners and an eye doctor's office.  According to Burtonsville Crossing's online …

I second the idea of an Aldi but I also understand that Giant did a hardball deal to keep any such competiton from getting into their old spot. (That's one of several reasons I refuse to shop at Giant.   more ›
