Trey Anastasio Band Electrifies the Fillmore Silver Spring
Phish front man more than holds his own with self-titled band.
Thursday evening’s dark grey skies, peals of thunder and bolts of lightning were unable to dampen the spirits of eager music lovers, some of whom lined up as early as 6 p.m. to get the best spots for the 8 p.m. performance of the Trey Anastasio Band at the Fillmore Silver Spring. Making its sixth stop on their Fall 2011 tour, the band came on just a few minutes after 8 p.m., beginning what would be a diverse mix of straightforward rock, blues, jazz, reggae, extended jams and instrumentals featuring songs from the band’s own catalog, selections from his “other” band—Phish—and covers from Gorillaz, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin and the Charlie Daniels band.
