Bites Nearby: Cupcakes and Mac n' Cheese at Silver Spring's Sweet & Cheesy

Anyone with a hunger for something sweet or savory got a chance to satisfy both cravings at CakeLove on Saturday, Feb. 16 in downtown Silver Spring. The owner of the bakery and the owner of CapMac food truck teamed up for the Sweet & Cheesy event. Customers tried out pasta dishes and taste cake icing samples. "What we want to do is sell our cream cheese icings to people, not just on our cupcakes, but in pint size containers and 4-oz. mini-tubs," said Warren Brown, the owner and founder of CakeLove. The "from scratch" bakery moved from its Ellsworth Drive address to 8512 Fenton St. about two years ago. There is seating at the new location where people can stay and enjoy their treats. Treats Truck: Mobile Bakery Visits East County

Sidewalk Sweetsations makes its way to Burtonsville and Silver Spring with an assortment of pies and cupcakes.

There’s no shortage of trendy cupcakeries in the region, but it’s not everyday a truck filled with unique, just-like-grandma flavors pulls into East Montgomery County.  Last year, Deedra Osborne turned the recipes her grandmother and mother passed down to her into popular mini treats that she serves up for Sidewalk Sweetsations. The bright yellow truck travels everywhere from Washington, D.C. to Columbia, MD, with stops near the Tech Road MVA and at the Burtonsville Office Park on National Drive. “I used to bake and everybody would always ask for my sweet potato pies,” she told Patch. “It was costing me too much money to give all that away,” she said with a laugh.
