Police Charge Briggs Chaney Man with Robbery of Elderly Woman

Woman was knocked to the ground and robbed at Safeway on Outlet Drive.

A 45-year-old Silver Spring man was charged with the assault and robbery of an elderly woman at the Safeway grocery in the Briggs Chaney neighborhood of Silver Spring.  Montgomery County police released surveillance video that showed a man approach the woman on Jan. 15 as she was gathering her groceries near the store's exit. The suspect knocked the woman down and police said he stole cash. The victim had minor injuries that were treated by fire/rescue at the scene, police said.  Ricky Jefferson, of the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard, was charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft under $100 in association with the crime. Dice Game Dispute May Have Led to Fairland Shooting

The New Year's Day shooting may have resulted from a months-old dispute over a dice game.

A New Year’s Day shootout in the Fairland neighborhood of Silver Spring that resulted in attempted murder charges may have stemmed from a five-month dispute over a dice game and money, according to police. No one was shot during the dispute. Following an incident in the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace in Silver Spring, Derek Bratcher, 32, of the same address, and Lamaughan Solomon, 38, of the 18100 block of Chalet Drive, were charged in connection with the shots fired that day. Bratcher was charged with a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and reckless endangerment while Solomon was charged with two counts of attempted murder and reckless endangerment according to Montgomery County Police…

Two Men Charged in Fairland Shooting

Police the two men had been engaged in an ongoing dispute before shots were fired outside of a Fairland home.

A parking lot dispute in the Fairland neighborhood of Silver Spring resulted in shots fired toward at least two people around 2:54 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1, Montgomery County police said. No one was hurt in the shooting, according to police.  Derek Bratcher, 32, and Lamaughan Solomon, 38, confronted each other, both flanked by other people, in the parking lot of the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace earlier on New Year's Day, police said. The two groups returned to the parking lot later in the day and police said Soloman pushed a baton towards Bratcher. Man Accused of Cutting Barbershop Customer with Shears

Police say a 52-year-old DC man argued with the victims about whom had won a foot race near a barbershop.

Bets on which barbershop customer would win a race outside of Big G's Barbershop in the Briggs Chaney section of Silver Spring turned out to be not-so-friendly, according to police. Eric Rice, 52, faces assault charges after police accused him of cutting a fellow customer's hand with barber's shears after the men argued over who won the race. Rice also is charged with punching a second man. Officers from Montgomery County police's 3rd District arrived at 13870 Old Columbia Pike around 5:22 p.m. Wednesday, just in time to see Rice, of Northeast DC, punching a 40-year-old in the face, police said.  After speaking with witnesses, officers said Rice and a 28-year-old male, both patrons of the barbershop, had raced each other outside of the …

Police Warn of Rash of Break-Ins in Silver Spring, Burtonsville

Camera equipment, cash, food and more have been disappearing from Silver Spring homes as residents report nine home burglaries in nine days, Montgomery County Police said.  Police believe the incidents, all occurring between Monday, Nov. 19 and Tuesday, Nov. 27, to be related and are warning residents to be alert.  One victim saw the suspects drive away in a 4-door dark-colored sedan with tinted windows and black rims, police said. The same description was given for a car that a neighbor saw driving away from the scene of another burglary.  Police believe the same three males are behind all of the crimes.  Most of the burglaries are clustered in neighborhoods south of the Capital Beltway, between Flower Avenue and the Northwest Branch. Several Car Break-Ins in Silver Spring, One Suspect Arrested

A string of vehicle break-ins were reported in Silver Spring the past two weeks, none appearing to be related, according to a report from Montgomery County Police’s 3rd District.  A 33-year-old man from Washington, DC was arrested and accused of breaking into as many as 15 vehicles in Silver Spring over a two-day period.  Police said they caught the suspect on Sunday, Sept. 30 when patrol officers responded to a possible theft in progress. Police stopped one suspect, but another ran away, police said. DC Teen Charged with Robbing, Assaulting Homeless in Silver Spring

An 18-year-old Washington, DC, man is charged with a sex offense, robbery and assault in attacks on area homeless people. Police arrested the man in the 8400 block of Georgia Avenue Friday, Aug. 31. Patrol officers responded to a homeless man’s report that he had woken up to find the suspect looking down at him. The victim said the suspect punched him before running away with his cell phone and lighter. Police said the same man also was identified by a homeless woman, who said he had sexually assaulted her just 90 minutes earlier at Discovery Place in downtown Silver Spring.  The man is scheduled for a preliminary hearing later this month, according to online court records.  Montgomery County Police’s Silver Spring District is …

Police Release Video of Storage Space Robbers in Silver Spring Area

Two men pretended to be customers at Public Storage in White Oak before duct-taping and robbing an employee.

  Montgomery County Police are looking for two men they think went on a public storage robbery spree, hitting locations in the Silver Spring neighborhood of White Oak and in Laurel.  Police said the suspects pretended to be customers when they entered Public Storage at 10717 Hillwood Drive on Wednesday, Aug. 19. When an employee began to collect storage rental info for the men, one of the suspects ran behind the counter, pulled out a knife and demanded money before pulling the phone cord from the wall, police report.  The men ended up with money from the business and some of the worker's belongings, including a wallet, before tying the man's hands and feet and leaving. Police Catch DC Man in Silver Spring With His Pants Down

A Washington, DC, man was charged with a sex offense Monday, Aug. 20, after patrol officers caught the 29-year-old with his pants down and masturbating in the hallway of an apartment building the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring, according to a report from Montgomery County Police. Exes Exact Revenge: Two Women Accuse Former Partners of Break-Ins

Two different women in East Montgomery County told police their homes had been broken into—mundane enough. Both women, though, accused former partners of the crimes, according to a summary of crimes provided by Montgomery County Police. The first woman accused her ex-boyfriend of entering her apartment in the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard sometime between noon on Monday, Aug. 6 and midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 7. She said he had a key to her place, but went inside without permission and stole video games.
