Local Farm Unscrambles Salmonella Egg Outbreak
Small family farms say their eggs are also tastier than the supermarket's.
Folks concerned by last week's Congressional hearing about the summer's Salmonella outbreak may have a better option when it comes to purchasing eggs. Mike Heyser, the principle owner of Heyser Farms, suggests, "Buy them from us [and] eat fresh and eat local." The benefits of eating local, Heyser says, are that you know where your food comes from and it tastes better, too. The recent salmonella outbreak is associated with eggs produced by two huge industrial agribusinesses, Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms of Iowa.
