Apartment Complex Breaks Ground at Old Second Ave Post Office Site
A 310-unit luxury complex will feature 39 affordable apartments.
More than 300 new apartments units are under construction in downtown Silver Spring on the site of the former Second Avenue Post Office. Fenwick Station, a project of Arlington, VA-based Insight Property Group and Chevy Chase-based Nova-Habitat, broke ground Tuesday with the promise of a six-story, 310 unit environmentally efficient building in the middle of downtown Silver Spring. Thirty-nine apartments will be affordable units. Patch reported last February that an apartment complex would replace the post office, which was shuttered amid a flurry of proposed postal service cutbacks in 2011.
