Phish front man more than holds his own with self-titled band.
Thursday evening’s dark grey skies, peals of thunder and bolts of lightning were unable to dampen the spirits of eager music lovers, some of whom lined up as early as 6 p.m. to get the best spots for the 8 p.m. performance of the Trey Anastasio Band at the Fillmore Silver Spring. Making its sixth stop on their Fall 2011 tour, the band came on just a few minutes after 8 p.m., beginning what would be a diverse mix of straightforward rock, blues, jazz, reggae, extended jams and instrumentals featuring songs from the band’s own catalog, selections from his “other” band—Phish—and covers from Gorillaz, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin and the Charlie Daniels band. Unlike Phish, the four-piece band that Anastasio most-often tours with, the Trey …

The Fillmore celebrated their arrival to Silver Spring with a VIP reception hosted by stand-up comedian and Silver Spring native Lewis Black, according to TBD.com. Two nights before singer Mary J. Blige inaugurated the music venue, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, Black entertained the crowd with stories of the community before downtown Silver Spring was revitalized. Black, a graduate of Springbrook High, said, "I was born and raised around here. “You have to realize that 40 years ago there was nothing out there…I don't think the children should have any of the advantages that I was deprived of," he continued jokingly. But Black isn’t sore about the entertainment offerings for kids today. He presented Springbrook High with a check for $10,000 and …
Fans waited a few hours for the show to begin but said the wait was worth it.
Hundreds of fans lined up along Fenton and Cameron streets Thursday evening in anticipation of watching Grammy-award winning artist Mary J. Blige electrify the stage during the first performance for the Fillmore Silver Spring. One fan was so excited and determined to be the first person in line that he started an early journey on Metro from his home in Anacostia, D.C. Darren Green said he was standing in front of the Fillmore Silver Spring by around 3:45 p.m. He watched Montgomery County Police officers and Fillmore security guards set up barricades, the rollout of the red carpet and other finishing touches being made to the venue. Green said it was worth his time. “I think this concert was absolutely wonderful," he said. "To have [Mary J…
