MoCo Food Trucks Park It, Online

A collection of food trucks in Montgomery County organized a collective website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com.

The grown-up lunch line nowadays is just as likely to be outside, on the corner of a busy intersection, as it is inside of a strip mall restaurant. It's been that way for years now, and while residents and workers in places crowded with food trucks may enjoy the variety and speed of mobile food offerings, keeping up with what's available and when can be a challenge.  A new website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com, organizes about a dozen food trucks within the county and includes a comprehensive calendar of when some of the trucks will be in which area.  Here's how the organizers describe the site: "This site will tell you the three "Ws" of food trucks: Where we are, Who we are and What we serve. Our trucks operate throughout Montgomery County, MD …

Bites Nearby: Catch Up with Go Fish for Seafood Lunch in Silver Spring

Chef-owned food truck shifts focus to satisfy lunchgoers and home cooks.

Did you ever play the Go Fish card game growing up? Well, picking winning cards from the "pool" might be a lot easier than finding fresh, chef-prepared seafood for lunch, especially if your office is blocks away from the restaurants in the center of downtown Silver Spring. "I enjoy seafood. We don't have a lot of food around here within walking distance, so it's good when the trucks come," said Michelle Evans, a Columbia resident. Evans and many of the other customers gathering around the Go Fish food truck on a Tuesday are Discovery Communications employees. One loyal follower and a friend walked over to Kennett and Newell Streets from the AFI Silver Theatre & Cultural Center, almost a mile away. "They make some really good food, and I …

Jose Andres Food Truck 'Pepe' Parking in Silver Spring Wednesday

The truck will serve Spanish sandwiches at the intersection of Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue.

Put down the turkey sandwich. Don't microwave that Lean Cuisine.  Jose Andres' popular Spanish food truck "Pepe" is heading to downtown Silver Spring for Wednesday's lunch hour. Pepe's Facebook page said it will be parked near Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue.  Pepe didn't give an exact time for its arrival, but when it landed in Bethesda earlier this week, lunch began at 11:30 a.m. The truck will serve Spanish sandwiches, called “falutas,” with selections including the Club Barcelona--thinly sliced chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and shallot mayonnaise--and the Butifarra Burger--a Spanish pork burger with alioli and brava sauce. Prices range from $8 to $14. For more information check out Bethesda Patch's story on the truck’s expanding …

Food Truck Offers Authenticity on a Budget

Have you tried the dishes at the Mexican Food truck on East Randolph Road?

A lot of the Mexican cuisine sold this side of the Rio Grande is more "Tex" than "Mex." So much so that when confronted with the real thing, a native Texan and self-described Mexican food fanatic like myself doesn't always recognize it.  The food sold in an unassuming white truck parked outside of the Sunoco on East Randolph Road offers a little bit of both. Owner Yolanda Abauta can cook up the usuals, like tacos and burritos, but most of her dishes are less mainstream. Staples include chicken and beef asado, salteñas and pupusa, a Salvadorian dish that Abauta makes from scratch, which I tried.  The wait was nearly twenty minutes as Abauta mixed Maseca corn flour, pounded the dough into shape and cooked the tortilla over a griddle. One …
