Hanukkah 2012 in Silver Spring

Celebrate the Festival of Lights in Silver Spring with fun events and delicious recipes.

This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, and ends a week later on Sunday, Dec. 16. According to Chabad.org, Hanukkah starts on the Hebrew calendar date of 25 Kislev and lasts for eight days. In Silver Spring, there is Woodside Synagogue-Ahavas Torah at 9001 Georgia Ave. (Know of other Jewish places of worship in Silver Spring? Add them in the comments.)  Local events in Washington, DC and Montgomery County include: The national Menorah lighting takes place on Dec. 9. A national celebration of the beginning of Hanukkah with features the United States Navy Band, children’s activities and the lighting of the National Menorah.
