Montgomery County's Best Face off in All-Star Boys Basketball Game

The Green team came out on top at the county's All-Star game on Wednesday.

Some of the county's best basketball players came together to compete at the Montgomery County All-Star basketball game on Wednesday evening at Wootton High School. The teams, which pulled 1o players from public school varsity teams, faced off in a competitive match up with the Green team coming out on top, 94-88.  The White team dominated the first half, with 3-point shots and superior defense. Although the Green team trailed the entire first half, it managed to take the lead 57-56 with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, the White team led 68-65, but Green came alive with some great plays in the paint and won the game. High School Basketball: Paint Branch Defeats Long Reach in Second HoCo-MoCo Challenge

The Long Reach High School Lightning battled hard, but it would not be enough to top the Paint Branch Panthers.

Nine times out of 10, Goliath beats David. Goliath prevailed once again on Tuesday, with a very good Paint Branch Panthers defeating the winless Long Reach Lightning by a final score of 68-52. Though the result might have seemed determined before anyone stepped on the court, there is a reason why they play the games out. The Lightning were able to find out that they can hang with a good team – at least for short spurts. Nevertheless, Long Reach never had the lead in the game, falling behind 10-2 after the first two minutes and, ultimately, falling to 0-10 on the season. It started off badly in the beginning. Paint Branch Panthers Score Win on Day 1 of MoCo-HoCo Basketball Challenge

The Howard High School Lions put up a battle that indicates they are better than their record, but came up short.

The marquee matchup of the Moco-Hoco Challenge featured a struggling 1-7 Howard Lions team against the Paint Branch Panthers. After two heartbreaking losses to open the season, the Panthers had won five straight games.   Paint Branch would make it six straight Monday, but, to the surprise of the spectators, Howard would give the Panthers a good run for their money.   The Lions are better than their record shows. This exciting matchup kept the fans on the edge of their seats, with the teams exchanging leads throughout the game. The Panthers would ultimately prevail, however, winning by a final score of 57-47. The key sequence of the game was a missed tip slam by Howard forward Tadas Pakalniskis.
