Hotel options are limited for Montgomery County residents without power.
For many left in the dark after Friday night’s storm, the decision was simple: No lights, no food, no air conditioning — no way. But the response they got at the innkeeper’s desk? “Sorry, no rooms.” Hotels throughout the county were booked solid this weekend. A web search Monday for a one-night stay at hotels in Gaithersburg, Germantown, Silver Spring, Rockville and Bethesda wielded few results, leaving people in search of lodging with limited options if they don’t have friends or family to stay with. And those who were able to find available rooms could only hope the demand for rooms would not lead to sky-high rates. Hotels, restaurants preparing to cater to tournament-goers this week.

While it’s too soon to tell how many will attend the AT&T National this week and how much spectators will spend, “if…

Burnt Mills-based Choice Hotels Internationals targeted.
Landing a new job is difficult in hard times, but one tech savvy Floridian took the process a little too far. Marc A. Schoen, 55, was sentenced to prison after he alerted Choice Hotels, a Silver Spring-based company, that they had a glitch in their computer system and threatened to release customer information if they didn’t hire him to fix it, according to a release from the United States Attorney Office for the District of Maryland. Choice Hotels International includes Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Clarion and Econo Lodge. Schoen went as far as sending samples to the company of the information he found including customers’ names, addresses, phone numbers, driver’s license numbers, email addresses, credit card …

Silver Spring's Loss is Win for Rockville, Montgomery County and State of Maryland.
Choice Hotels International, one of the world's largest hotel chains, has announced plans to relocate from its current Silver Spring headquarters on Columbia Pike (Rt. 29), to a new location in Rockville, MD. The move would take place when its current lease in expires in 2013. The company signed a letter of intent for the move Monday with Governor Martin O'Malley, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio. To keep the company's home in Maryland, state, city, and county offered more than $4 million in incentives, contingent on the hiring of employees at its new location. With nearly 400 employees and growing, Choice Hotels has been searching for a new headquarters in the DC area since mid-2008. …
