Maryland State Police are taking three times longer than usual to finish background checks on new gun purchases, Maryland gun dealers said in interviews. The process usually takes seven days, but several Maryland gun dealers said it was taking three weeks or more for the agency to complete the checks. They blamed the delay on a surge in gun sales sparked by debate over new gun control regulations proposed by President Barack Obama and Gov. On Jan. 1, 2013, the nation's first law allowing parents to "freeze" their minor children's credit at any time to protect them from identity theft will take effect in the state of Maryland. Currently, according to a recent Washington Post article, credit agencies are obliged to place a freeze of the credit of anyone with a credit history, but not those who do not have a pre-existing credit report, such as a minor. A 2011 report from the Carnegie Mellon University CyLab found that more than 10% of the children surveyed had their Social Security number used by someone else, a figure 51 times higher than adults in the same study. Montgomery County moms in support of gay marriage have just a few words for voters: vote yes for question six. Also known as the Civil Marriage Protection Act, this bill was signed by Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) and is pending voter approval Tuesday, Nov. 6. If majority of residents support the measure, it will go into full effect Jan. 2, 2013.

Elizabeth: You are certainly entitled to feel that way, but for those of us who are law abiding citizens and following the rules, I believe it is inappropriate to have the exercise of a constitutional right severely hindered to an inefficient system.
