More of the Metropolitan Branch Trail Opened
The trail was opened in the area around the Silver Spring Transit Center.
A short portion of a walking and biking trail running alongside the Silver Spring Transit Center opened this week, according to a statement from Montgomery County government. The Metropolitan Branch Trail now extends from the Silver Spring Metro station to Ripley Street, allowing for better pedestrian and biking access to Metro and MARC trains. Last month, a part of the trail opened that extends from the south end of the MARC platform to the transit plaza in front of the Metrorail station. The Metropolitan Branch Trail is an 8-mile trail that runs from Silver Spring to Union Station in Washington DC. Completion of the trail in Silver Spring was one of several recommendations given by local bike advocacy groups to prepare Montgomery County…

This new connection to the end of Fenwick Street if great. I hope they will also open a pedestrian path through to the end of Bonifant Street. It looks like the sidewalk paving bricks are all down, but Folger-Pratt will need to pull in its elbows a little where the right-of-way is fenced off for the construction office trailers.   more ›
