Pedestrian Death Involved Silver Spring Bus Driver

A 50-year-old man fell under the bus as it was pulling away from a bus stop on Georgia Avenue, according to police.

A Brookville man died in the hospital Thursday morning after being struck by a Metro bus on Wednesday night. Ronald Maurice Johnson, 50, who had fallen under the bus on southbound Georgia Avenue, was taken to Suburban Hospital with what seemed to be non-life-threatening injuries, Montgomery County Police said. However, Johnson's condition worsened overnight and he was pronounced dead at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, police said. The bus was pulling away from a bus stop on southbound Georgia Avenue when Johnson fell under the bus, according to police accounts. Police officers and fire and rescue personnel responded at approximately 11:08 p.m. to the area just south of the intersection with Olney-Sandy Spring Road, according to a news release. Minor Injuries for Man Hit By Car in Silver Spring

The incident occurred around 1:34 p.m. on Thursday, April 4.

An adult male was taken to a local hospital as a precaution Thursday afternoon after he was hit by a car near Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue in downtown Silver Spring, according to Beth Anne Nesselt, public information officer for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. The victim sustained minor injuries. Report: Pedestrian Hit and Run in Long Branch Area of Silver Spring

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, The Washington Post reported.

The driver of a dark-colored truck that hit a pedestrian Saturday morning at Piney Branch Road and Arliss Street in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring did not stay on the scene, according to a report from The Washington Post.  Montgomery County police responded around 8:15 a.m. March 30. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, The Post reported.

Officials call it 'unacceptable;' others blame pedestrians.

Just 10 weeks into 2013, Montgomery County Patch sites have reported 12 incidents involving pedestrians or bicyclists struck by vehicles. Among those, four pedestrians and one bicyclist were killed, with all of the fatalities occurring in the middle and eastern portions of the county. Ken Silverman, an analyst for Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro (D-Dist 4) of Silver Spring, detailed the cluster of fatalities in Silver Spring and Wheaton on Navarro’s blog and called the deaths "simply unacceptable."  Silverman also reported that Ben Ross of Action Committee for Transit suggested that police aggressively ticket drivers who speed or fail to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks. Five Pedestrian, Bicyclist Deaths: What Must Be Done?

A bicyclist's death this week marked the fifth fatal collision in the eastern and middle areas of Montgomery County since late January.

A 23-year-old man died after a car struck his bicycle in downtown Silver Spring Sunday, the latest casualty in a series of collisions that have unsettled Montgomery County residents. Since Jan. 22, four pedestrians — and now one cyclist — have died in Silver Spring and Aspen Hill. Three were killed while crossing the road, another while she stood on the sidewalk.  Two additional pedestrians survived strikes by cars, but sustained injuries. Updated: 75-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck on Colesville Road

The man was sent to a local trauma center in serious condition, said fire and rescue officials.

A 75-year-old man is in serious condition at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda after he was hit by a car Thursday morning near the intersection of Colesville Road and North Noyes Drive in Silver Spring. The pedestrian was identified as John Skelton Williams, of the 9000 block of Sligo Creek Parkway, in Silver Spring. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the scene around 9:32 a.m., according to Beth Anne Nesselt, a spokesperson for the department. A silver 2005 Honda Accord traveling north on Colesville Road hit Williams as he was crossing Colesville Road from east to west, just north of North Noyes Drive, Montgomery County police said in a news release. Three pedestrians have been struck and killed within weeks of each other in Montgomery County. What can be done to ensure pedestrian safety?

In a span of just three weeks, three pedestrians have been fatally hit by cars in Montgomery County. Silver Spring Man Struck by Car in Aspen Hill, Dies

Fatal collision occurred Monday night at Georgia Avenue and Heathfield Road.

A 59-year-old man from Silver Spring was hit by a car in Aspen Hill Monday night and later died of his injuries, according to Montgomery County police. Frank Sedwick, of the 1200 block of Downs Drive, was crossing Georgia Avenue from west to east at Heathfield Road in Aspen Hill when he was struck by a white 2005 Nissan Altima traveling southbound, according to a statement from police. Police and fire and rescue personnel responded at 10:20 p.m. Sedwick was flown to Suburban Hospital, where he died. Police have identified the driver of the Altima as Victoria Carter, 24, of the 19000 block of Fuller Heights Road in Triangle, VA. Firstly, this particular accident was not caused by a pedestrian disobeying signs or lights. This happened at an unmarked crosswalk where motorists are REQUIRED to yield to pedestrians. Blaming the victim by implying that he was as much to blame as the driver that hit him is not helpful. Also, putting the issue in the context of 'winning' and losing is offensive. Briggs Chaney Woman Identified as Pedestrian Crash Victim

Georgina Afful-Asare, 54, died of injuries sustained after a car drove onto a sidewalk and hit her.

A pedestrian struck and killed by a car Tuesday, Jan.22, near Orchard Center has been identified as Georgina Afful-Asare, 54, of the Briggs Chaney neighborhood of Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police. Afful-Asare was hit by a 2002 maroon Mitsubishi Montero as she walked on a sidewalk on Broadbirch Drive, police said. She was taken to Crowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she died of her injuries.  Police said they are investigating why the driver steered her vehicle onto the curb, across the grass and eventually along the sidewalk.
