Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl is a "forward-thinking" man who brings a "special energy" for the Maryland Catholic schools, currently undergoing financial struggle, said Kathy Dempsey, director of communications for the Maryland Catholic Conference. A Washington Post report said Pope Benedict XVI appointed Wuerl as cardinal of the Archdiocese of Washington.
