Guide to Inauguration Day Road Closures, Metro and Metrobus

Plan your commute carefully on Jan. 21.

That alone would cause an increase in traffic on Washington, DC's roads, buses, trains and sidewalks. For safety and security reasons, a number of roads surrounding the National Mall will be closed on Jan. 21. Some Metrorail stations and Metrobus routes will be affected as well. The District of Columbia's Presidential Inauguration 2013 website details the status of road access into Washington, DC, on Inauguration Day: The following roads will be closed from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21: The website also lists all of the "emergency no parking zones" in effect between 7 a.…

Montgomery County Opens Cooling Centers

Find out where to stay cool in the heat.

With 210,000 Montgomery County Pepco customers without power in soaring temperatures, it's going to be tough to stay cool. Montgomery County has opened three cooling centers across the county and four public libraries with air conditioning. Takoma Park has one cooling center open. Cooling centers: The Germantown, Bethesda, Praisner and Damascus public libraries are all also open. There are 500 out of 800 traffic signals without power across the county and all dark intersections should be treated as a four-way stop. The following pools are closed: All scheduled Montgomery County Recreational Department programs and activities are canceled. To report hot or sparkling wires, especially those across roadways, call 911.
