Glenn V. Rhodes, 34, was charged with carjacking, assault and resisting arrest
A police chase that ended with a carjacking in Rockville injured two police officers and sent one unsuspecting motorist to the hospital on Wednesday, according to the statement of charges filed in Montgomery County District Court. Glenn V. Rhodes, 34, who has no fixed address, was charged with carjacking, assault and resisting arrest. The charges stem from a string of incidents that began with a traffic stop in the White Oak neighborhood of Silver Spring, the court records show. Police said they tried to stop Rhodes at an off ramp on Columbia Pike after they discovered the car he was driving had stolen tags. Police say the victims were walking down a sidewalk in the Long Branch area of Silver Spring.
A man was stabbed and sent to a local hospital early Monday morning after an attempted robbery that occurred as he and an adult female were walking down a sidewalk in the Long Branch area of Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said. Officers were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. April 8 to the intersection of Gilbert Place and Barron Street with reports of a stabbing, said Officer Janelle Smith, spokesperson for the department. Police said two male suspects approached the couple and the woman threw her purse at the suspects. One of the robbers tried to search the man, who was then stabbed, Smith said. Police did not recover any weapons and nothing was stolen from the couple. No arrests have been made.

Police said a transgendered individual and a friend were beat up in downtown Silver Spring by a group of students.
Hate crime charges are pending on three men who are accused of beating and kicking a transgendered person and a friend, according to a report from Montgomery County police's 3rd District. The victim told police that he and a friend were followed by a group of four people while walking near the intersection of Colesville Road and Ramsey Avenue in downtown Silver Spring around 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. The suspects made comments about the victims' sexuality before assaulting the two, according to police. The suspects ran away when a bystander tried to help the victims, police said. Montgomery County Police released surveillance photos on Monday of men in connection with back-to-back robberies that occurred in January in downtown Silver Spring, and are asking for the public's help in identifying the persons. A 31-year-old man told police that he was robbed at the corner of Colesville Road and East-West Highway on Jan. 16 around 9:44 p.m. He said he was walking on Colesville when he was grabbed from behind and pulled to the ground, according to police. Airbags were stolen from eight vehicles overnight on streets surrounding the Forest Glen Metro station on Thursday, Feb. 14, according to a report from the Montgomery County police 3rd District. Between 2 a.m. and 8:05 a.m., the airbags of Honda, Acura and Toyota make vehicles were broken into and the airbags were taken, police said. Reports came from vehicles parked on Georgia Avenue, Churchill Road, Bonnywood Lane, Blundon Road, Clark Place, Granville Road and Belvedere Boulevard. No arrests have been reported in association with the thefts. A 47-year-old Silver Spring man is accused of robbing two banks and a convenience store.
Montgomery County police arrested a Silver Spring man they allege is responsible for three armed robberies—the hold-ups of a convenience store and a bank yesterday in Wheaton, and an attempted robbery of a Silver Spring bank on Jan. 23. Police allege that Joseph Urrutia, 47, is the person responsible in all three robberies, according to a police statement released on Tuesday. Urrutia, of Silver Spring, was charged with three counts of armed robbery and is being held on a $125,000 bond. Guests at the Silver Spring Homewood Suites Hotel were robbed by a man wielding a sawed-off shotgun, police said.
Montgomery County police say an 18-year-old male wielding a sawed-off shotgun robbed multiple guests late Friday at Silver Spring's Homewood Suites Hotel. Jackson Julius, of the 3600 block of Bel Pre Road, was charged with multiple counts of armed robbery and other related firearm offenses, police said. At approximately 11:21 p.m. on Jan. 25, police responded to the hotel, located at 8728 Colesville Road, for the armed robbery of multiple guests in a single hotel room. Police said one victim had rented a room at the hotel and notified friends via text message that she was hosting a party in a specific room. Woman was knocked to the ground and robbed at Safeway on Outlet Drive.
A 45-year-old Silver Spring man was charged with the assault and robbery of an elderly woman at the Safeway grocery in the Briggs Chaney neighborhood of Silver Spring. Montgomery County police released surveillance video that showed a man approach the woman on Jan. 15 as she was gathering her groceries near the store's exit. The suspect knocked the woman down and police said he stole cash. The victim had minor injuries that were treated by fire/rescue at the scene, police said.
