'These Shining Lives' Comes to Silver Spring Stage

A true story about the lives of four women working in a 1920s clock factory comes to life in a new play.

“This is not a fairytale, although it starts out like one. This is not a tragedy, although it ends like one,” is one of the first lines said in the Silver Spring Stage play These Shining Lives according to producer Seth Ghitelman. Written by Melanie Marnich, These Shining Lives is based on a true story about four women who work in a clock factory in Chicago in the 1920s. Silver Spring Stage is offering up a campaign thriller with all the scandal and intrigue you'd expect from an actual presidential campaign, the Gazette reports.  Farragut North is loosely based on Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign and stars an actual former political staffer, the newspaper reports. The play, written by Beau Williams, a former staffer of Howard Dean and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also served as the inspiration for The Ides of March, a film starring George Clooney and Ryan Gosling.  Director Bridget Muehlberger thinks that the political play will resonate well with Silver Spring audiences: “I kind of note […

Family Affair for the Murrays at Silver Spring Stage

Adaptation of A Christmas Carol gives whole family a chance to get in the holiday spirit.

The Silver Spring Stage, a local theater company, performs Michael Hardwick adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, with four members of Silver Spring’s Murray family – dad Brendan, mom Kirsten, daughter Kelsey and son Ian involved in the production. During the show's last weekend, Brendan said expressed how performing with his family has been very special to him. “Both of my children are acting on stage; my daughter helped paint the set, as did my wife who also helped with costuming, hospitality, and backstage logistics; I occasionally ran the sound board. To have the whole family participate in the creation of such a beautiful end product is a rare gift,” he continued. The production transplanted the familiar tale of Ebenezer …
