Super Bowl XLVII: The Harbaughs

Harbaugh Family: Jack of Head Coaches

Super Bowl XLVII pits the 49ers' Jim Harbaugh against the Ravens' John Harbaugh. Patch shares the story of the Harbaugh family leading into Super Bowl Sunday.

Jack Harbaugh coached for decades. He was the head coach for 55 games. He's seen a lot of football. But only once before has the father of three watched as his two sons coached against one another in the NFL. And after three-or-so agonizing hours on Thanksgiving Day 2011, Harbaugh visited the bowels of M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, peered into the Ravens locker room to see his jubilant son, John. Then he took an immediate detour to the visiting locker room to find his son, Jim. That's where he belonged. "It was quiet and somber, and finally I saw Jim, all by himself, no one around him. He still had his coaching things on, and his hands on his head, and we realized that that is where we were needed," Jack Harbaugh said. "So that feel of …

Where to Watch Super Bowl XLVII in Silver Spring

Many bars and restaurants will show the Ravens-49ers game and feature food and drink specials.

There's a very legitimate debate going on about whether DC-area football fans should support our local rival and just-up-I-95 neighbors, the Baltimore Ravens, when they take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.  Wherever you stand and whichever team you'll root for, you're going to need hot wings and beer to do it.  Here's where to go in Silver Spring: McGinty's Public House: Expect $15 buckets of Bud Light, $4 beer-shot concoctions and some as-yet-to-be-determined food specials. You can watch the game on the flat screens downstairs, or on a big projector-style screen upstairs.  Austin Grill: They've got a 6-foot projection screen TV all ready to be shouted at on Sunday. For drinks, Miller Lights and Shiner Bock are $3, classic …

Baltimore Sends Off Ravens to Super Bowl XLVII

Fans gathered at the Inner Harbor to cheer on the Ravens as they left for New Orleans on Monday.

The ice and rain Monday morning didn't stop the Baltimore faithful from crowding the Inner Harbor to rally around the Ravens as they departed for New Orleans and Super Bowl XLVII. Lucky kids who got off school sat on shoulders, 20-somethings belted Ravens chants and several of the football players themselves were seen snapping photos and video of the send-off. Future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis gave credit to the fans. "Baltimore, Baltimore—there is no Ravens without you guys," said Lewis, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the postseason. "We did this in 2000, and we're not going to New Orleans for nothing else but to bring back another ring to Baltimore." Gov. Martin O'Malley joined Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie …
