Springbrook Newspaper Pushes for Funds to Publish Final Issues
The student newspaper needs nearly $2,000 to print the year’s two final issues.
High school newsrooms aren't immune to the economic woes and cuts of the news industry, it seems. At Springbrook High’s award-winning monthly newspaper, The Blueprint, students face a budget deficit of nearly $2,000. If students don’t raise the money, the paper’s last two issues of the school year won’t make it to print, according to Wendy Borrelli, the paper’s advisor. Typically, the paper raises the $8,000 it needs to operate for a full year through a combination of advertisements, donations, subscriptions and fundraisers. The paper gets $500 in administrative funds from the school.
