Visions for Vacancies

Visions for Vacancies: Pet Barn Space in Burtonsville

We're asking the community what businesses and services they would like to see move into empty store fronts and buildings around town.

We're back in Burtonsville Crossing for this week's "Visions for Vacancies," at the location formerly known as Pet Barn. The household animal emporium moved to Maple Lawn in Howard County last December and its old spot in Burtonsville is still empty.  What do you want to see in this vacancy? Another pet store? Some sort of clothing store? A restaurant?  Here are the stats: Old Pet Barn Vacant for nine months 15000 block of Old Columbia Pike, inside of Burtonsville Crossing shopping center Leased by Edens     (If you have an idea for a future "Visions for Vacancies," just tell us in the comments.)

Visions for Vacancies: Nations Carpet in White Oak

We're asking the community what businesses and services they would like to see move into vacancies around town.

White Oak Shopping Center is the subject of this week's "Visions for Vacancies." More specifically, the vacant space formerly known as Nations Carpet.  As always with this column, we want to know what business or service you would like to see in this vacancy. No suggestion is too unrealistic or outlandish--go crazy!   For new readers, we've done this before! Check out older Visions for Vacancies posts here.  Here are the stats for this week's vacancy: Old Nations Carpet 11233 New Hampshire Ave. 3,585 square feet Leased by Saul Centers   (If you have an idea for a future "Visions for Vacancies," just tell us in the comments.)

Visions for Vacancies: Old Frame Store in Colesville Center

We're asking the community what businesses and services they would like to see move into vacancies around town.

We're back in Colesville Center for this week's "Visions for Vacancies," and we want to know what business you would put in the old frame store.  It's a sizeable vacancy, across from Colesville Giant and right next door to Pollo Mex. If it were up to you, what business or service woud you have move in? Be creative! A unique type of market? A specialty clothing store? A hamster training business? A Quizno's? It's your choice.   So, what do you want to see in this vacancy?  Here are the stats: Old frame store 13438 New Hampshire Ave. Leased by Kramer Enterprises   (If you have an idea for a future "Visions for Vacancies," just tell us in the comments.)

Visions for Vacancies: Old KFC in Burtonsville

We're asking the community what businesses and services they would like to see move into vacancies around town.

So, this "Visions for Vacancies" is pretty simple: What do you want to see in the old KFC/Taco Bell site in Burtonsville Crossing shopping center?  The building is perfect for another fast-food restaurant (what else would need a drive-thru?), so we want to know your preference.  For new readers, this column highlights prominent vacancies in the area and asks you what businesses or services you would like to see occupy the space.  Here are the stats: Old KFC/Taco Bell Vacant for two years 15000 block of Old Columbia Pike, inside of Burtonsville Crossing shopping center 2,525 square feet Leased by Edens   (If you have an idea for a future "Visions for Vacancies," just tell us in the comments.)

Our community planner series is back! I agree that a good restaurant would be great - a casual gathering spot that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. And I agree that parking is not a big deal.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies

What Do You Want to See in the Old Burtonsville Giant Vacancy?

We're asking the community what businesses and services they would like to see move into vacancies around town.

Play community planner for a second: What do you want to see in East Montgomery County?  That's the idea behind our new column, "Visions for Vacancies." Whether it's a small space on a forgotten side street or a huge, commercial center near two major state roads.  Speaking of large spaces, the first vacancy spotlight is Giant's old building in Burtonsville Crossing. (There's a whole story behind this vacancy, also.)  Here are the stats: Old Giant building 15700 block of Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville  55,330 square feet Leased by Edens We've asked before, but we want everyone to chime in: What would you like to see in this vacancy? (If you have an idea for a future "Visions for Vacancies," just tell us in the comments.)

Right now that stretch of road is treated as a pass through when exiting route 29. I would like to see a walkable retail community anchored by privately owned restaurants and shops. I would like to see community events taking place there every weekend during the summer months with live family friendly music. I have the perfect example. please do a quick online search for Belvedere Square in …   more ›
