Updated: Silver Spring Man Dead After White Oak Pedestrian Crash

Police said the man tripped while walking across the southbound lanes of Route 29 Thursday night.

A 44-year-old man is dead after being hit by a Nissan Altima while he was walking across the southbound lanes of Route 29 in White Oak Thursday night, Montgomery County police said.  Police said the driver, Kym Nwosu, 43, of Columbia, MD, was heading south on Route 29 and approaching Oak Leaf Drive. Witnesses told investigating officers that Charles Oppong Aboagye, of the 100 block of Finale Terrace in Silver Spring, had been on the median of the road before he started to cross the southbound lanes, police said. He tripped and was hit by the car, according to police.  The driver stayed on the scene and by the time police arrived, around 10:30 p.m., the victim was dead, police said.  Police are asking anyone who has information about this …

I wish you luck with the case. Pedestrians and cyclists come a distant second to motorists in police reports. Sadly, police tend to favor drivers over any other kind of road user, probably because most police work out of cars. If we could get more police on bcycles and on foot, maybe they would get a different perspective.   more ›
