Alan Bowser is past President of the Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., a community-serving nonprofit that was established to provide arts & entertainment programming for the Silver Spring Civic Building and Veterans Plaza.  He is the founder and Executive Producer of the Silver Spring Blues Festival and SSTCi's Plaza Performances. 

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Safe Silver Spring, Inc., the Sligo Creek Golf Association, Inc., Building Bridges America, Inc., and Conservation Montgomery. 

An attorney, he lives in the Park Hills neighborhood of Silver Spring.
