J.J. Smith has worked as a journalist and editor for more than 20 years on the staffs of daily newspapers, wire services and specialty newsletters. As a local reporter, he has covered politics and government for the Jamestown (N.Y.) Post-Journal and the Medina (N.Y.) Journal-Register. He has also worked as wire service editor for the Lockport (N.Y.) Union-Sun & Journal. Most recently he was an editor/online manager for the Society for Human Resource Management writing about international employment, workplace safety and security and human resource consulting. J.J. is a resident of Silver Spring.

He wrote the book, "Haunted Alexandria and Northern Virginia," which examines Northern Virginia's history, legends and lore.

J.J. has also covered topics and policy issues as diverse as religion, politics, substance abuse, homeland security and energy. He has been a staff reporter covering federal policy for United Press International, the Catholic News Service, Inside Washington and CD Publications.
