Kwanza Fisher has a love for many things, but education issues, China, and contemporary art rank high for her. She is the founder and organizer of the Atlanta Neighborhood Math Competition and is working to create a culture of education in communities through various initiatives. Having obtained a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Wellesley College and studied in Beijing and Hangzhou, China, Kwanza is an avid-China watcher who speaks a mouth full of Mandarin Chinese. She also loves contemporary art, especially pieces in the Contemporary Chinese genre. When she’s not doing her part to improve education in Atlanta or admiring pieces by her favorite artists, she enjoys watching old movies and I Love Lucy, or making gains in learning Cantonese, which she says is actually pretty fun to speak. Fisher—who grew up in the Cascade community—was one of a handful of scholars from around the nation selected in 2011 by the Obama administration for the prestigious Champion of Challenge Youth Entrepreneur designation. Her blog home is www.closethegapculture.blogspot.com.
