On the article POLL: Which Location Should Prince George's Co. Officials Pick for the New Casino?

ReplyI really have to shake my head over this; years back, when local fire stations and charities were running casino games, the State, PG County, etc. - who were apparenlty NOT getting a cut of the action? - got all pious and said that gambling was a bad thing, that it wasn't good for our image, and blah, blah, blah. However, now? Now that they ARE getting revenue? All of a sudden casinos are a good thing and they want to open one on every block. Absolutely pathetic.

tamulic, I agree completely; however, if you DARE to ask any of the powers that be what their plans are to deal with the increase in traffic, the increased need for public services, etc., all you get is a bunch of political double-speak and/or an accusation that you're against change. Anyone who lives or commutes in the area now can see what a mess it is on Route 1; rush hour NOW is a complete nightmare. But, as you say, the owners won't live around here, so they don't care. I can live with planned change, but this.....?

ReplyYes, I know a lot of pedestrians seem to be TRYING to get hit by cars; however, even if you cross at a light WITH the walk signal, there's always someone trying to run you down. IPedestrian deaths/injuries are not ALWAYS the fault of the pedestrians.

ReplyFor anything at all to do with this project, I will quote Spanky in the old "Our Gang" comedies; "ohh, raspberries!!!" (yes, yes, I know, "my opinion matters," "we really, really CARE about what you think," and so on, ad nauseum.)

On the article College Park Metro Station Closed During UMD Commencement Weekend

ReplyOK, Metro has to do their work, but really - who at Metro figured that closing the College Park station on the same weekend that commencement activities were due to take place was a good idea? I mean, it's not like this doesn't happen every year around the same time, right? Nobody at Metro - nobody? - said "hey, maybe we should check on this" before scheduling the work? Unbelievable. Or maybe Metro just simply doesn't care. (NO!)

ReplyThe cut-through traffic on Lafayette Avenue has gotten worse and worse over the past few years and creates a nightmare of congestion at the intersection of Lafayette and Queensbury. Cars can be backed up all the way from Route 1 and Queensbury to the railroad tracks at rush hour. And it is only going to get much worse. I would love to think that the powers that be have taken all of this into consideration; not just the increase in traffic, but the increase in maintenance, the increased use of utilities, road maintenance, emergency services, and so forth. However, whenever I've brought this question up, all I hear is a lot of double talk. I'm not against change but it seems that many people are only thinking about what they want NOW and not about the future impact on our lovely town.

ReplyOne would THINK that all of these "details" would have been discussed and pretty much finalized before the paperwork for the development was signed. Mr. Cron, you are 100 percent correct, this development will bring a huge amount of traffic to the area - and it would appear that the powers that be just aren't taking that into consideration. Pathetic.

ReplyA bookstore, please. A yoga studio? Please NO. How about something many of the towns' residents would actually use? As for the suggestion above for a colon hydrotherapist - uh, to each their own; however, I'll go to CVS and pick up a Fleet and take care of THAT problem on my own.........

On the article Could Cicadas Be the Perfect Summer Snack?

ReplyNothing in particular against eating insects, but really; cicadas spend 17 years under ground, only to be eaten by someone who wants to have a "culinary experience?" How pathetic is that? Not even like it's a natural predator for the insect that's eating it to survive.
