Bomb Threat Evacuates Movie Theater, Detours Zombie Walk in Silver Spring

Traffic was shut down around the theater Saturday night, which was on the route of Saturday's Silver Spring Zombie Walk.

Moviegoers evacuated Silver Spring's Regal Majestic Stadium (900 Ellsworth Dr.) Saturday night after an anonymous 911 caller reported overhearing someone say he was going to blow up the building, NBC Washington reported

The incident occurred between 9 and 10 p.m., according to NBC Washington and The Washington Post, and the building remained evacuated for about an hour, The Post reported.

Traffic was shut down in several blocks around the theater, news sites reported.

Unfortunately, the evacuation coincided with the Silver Spring Zombie Walk, which began at 9 p.m. at Jackie's Restaurant (8081 Georgia Ave.) and proceeded east on Sligo Avenue and north on Fenton Street to the walk's final destination, the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road), for a 10:15 p.m. showing of Return of the Living Dead.

At 9:35 p.m. Saturday, Twitter user ThayerAvenue wrote: "It appears an incident at the Majestic has diverted the zombie walk route. #sszw

At 10:18 p.m., Twitter user ptolemyclark wrote: "Well, the Silver Spring Zombie Walk #sszw turned out FUBAR due to evacuation of Majestic. Walk rerouted but no communication so missed it."

The next morning, Twitter user chavalahh wrote: "Debated going to the Silver Spring Zombie Walk last night, but was tired after busy day & saw all the police cars."

Still, judging by reports on Twitter, the Zombie Walk carried on.
