Shutdown Possible for 3 Red Line Stations

Water leaks could cause three red line Metro stations, including Bethesda, to close for repairs.

Friendship Heights and Medical Center stations could also close for more than a month, according to a News4 report. The station obtained video showing rusted and dripping pipes and cracks on walls. The red line is Metro's busiest, according to the report.

However, a Metro official stressed Friday in a Washington Post report that any permanent fix for the problem could be at least a year away, and said it's “too early to know” if a closure would be necessary.

Part of the leak problem is caused by the area's geography, according to the Post report. A permanent fix would require relining the tunnel, according to the News4 report.
