Young Man With Cutting Wounds Dies in Silver Spring Apartment

Mark Edward Waugh, of Great Falls, was pronounced dead in the apartment, and Rahul Gupta, of McLean, was taken into custody.

A 23-year-old man died in an East-West Highway apartment in Silver Spring on Sunday, Oct. 13, after police found him unresponsive and suffering from what appeared to be cutting wounds, according to a police news release.

A 23-year-old woman called police to the apartment at 1220 East-West Highway shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The man with apparent cutting wounds—Mark Edward Waugh, of Great Falls, VA—was pronounced dead in the apartment, and another man in the apartment—Rahul Gupta, 24, of McLean, VA—was taken into custody and charged with homicide, police reported.

Gupta has been known to frequent the apartment on East-West Highway, police added.

Police say that the three people knew one another, The Washington Post reported.

A member of Waugh's family said that "Waugh had gone to Langley High School and graduated from James Madison University ... before entering the Georgetown University Law Center," The Post added.
