Chicken Suit for Food Safety

Custom chicken suit promotes food safety.

When Jorge Aguilar called to see if I could make him a chicken suit, I said sure. Let’s talk about what you want, and I’ll see what I can come up with.

It wasn’t for Halloween. As an organizer for Food & Water Watch, a consumer advocacy nonprofit, Jorge wanted a chicken suit to promote the food safety campaign he was working on. The organization had previously used cow suits in its tour around the country to raise awareness about its anti-growth hormones in milk campaign. Now, it was looking for a chicken suit that it could use to bring attention to the dangers of arsenic in chicken feed.

Apparently, a good chicken suit is hard to find. It seems that just as most grocery stores sell chicken that is produced by the same few major corporations, many of the companies that sell chicken suits online sell the same models. And, many of the full body chicken suits on the market are cumbersome, made out of fake fur, and just don’t look very friendly.

Jorge wanted a chicken suit that was well made, but also comfortable. He wanted it to look approachable. And, while he wanted a mask that would cover his full head, he also wanted to be able to see out of it easily, and to be able to talk to people face to face while wearing it.

So, following Jorge’s criteria, here is the chicken suit I came up with.
