McCoy writes that the Silver Spring sign was 93 pounds and “It is theorized that the sign was positioned parallel to the single Baltimore & Ohio Railroad ‘Metropolitan Branch’ track bed that ran through Silver Spring up until the late 1880s/early 1890s when double tracks commenced to be laid from Washington to Gaithersburg.”

The sign will be displayed at the 1945 B & 0 Railroad Station, 8100 Georgia Ave., according to McCoy.

Anyone with more information about the sign is encouraged to contact McCoy at 301.537.1253 or sshistory@yahoo.com.
